Self-catering winner

Winning Lake District holiday cottages

The cottages at Hall Hills won both the Cumbria and the North-West England competitions for the Self-Catering Holiday of the Year for 2009.

The 5 self catering cottages

We have five self-catering holiday cottages clustered around an attractive gravel courtyard. These are the result of a careful and tasteful conversion of the 17th century stone barns and granaries of what used to be an important local farm.

The holiday properties have been individually designed and been built and furnished to a high standard. They are fully equipped and meticulously cared for.

There are private patios (with heaters if needed) where you can sit out and enjoy the views across the Cumbria countryside to the Scottish Borders in the north and the Lake District in the west.

Features of the cottages include:

  • Exposed beams
  • Solid oak floors
  • Open-plan living area
  • Extensively equipped kitchens
  • Stylish interiors
  • Crisp white Egyptian linen
  • WiFi enabled
  • Integrated sound system
  • Private patio

The Lake District & Cumbria

The location of Hall Hills in a charming part of north Cumbria makes it an ideal base for a self-catering holiday with easy access to the Lake District and to numerous picturesque Cumbrian towns and villages such as Caldbeck, Dalston and Heskett. The rolling Cumbrian countryside offers numerous walks and the quiet rural lanes are ideal for cycling.

Lake District, Cumbria, UK

A short drive to the south is Ullswater - the closest of the Lake District lakes. Almost as close is Derwentwater and the busy Lake District market town of Keswick to the south west.

Just to the east of Hall Hills is the Eden Valley, with the River Eden running past Penrith to the Solway Firth. Eden attractions include the village of Little Salkeld, near which is Long Meg and Her Daughters - one of the largest neolithic stone circles in England.

To the north of Hall Hills is Carlisle - Cumbria's capital city and one rich in history and things to see and do. Beyond Carlisle is the Scottish Border region, where the big attraction is Hadrian's Wall - a World Heritage Site. Go on the Hadrian's Wall walk in Carlisle or visit Vindolanda.
